𝙔𝙖𝙗 𝘿𝙖𝙨𝙝𝙤 𝘿𝙝𝙤𝙣𝙙𝙪𝙥 𝙂𝙮𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙨𝙝𝙚𝙣
Yab Dasho Dhondup Gyaltshen, the father of Her Majesty Queen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck, is a distinguished figure from Tashigang Dzongkhag in eastern Bhutan. A descendant of the noble Tamzhing Choji family, his lineage is deeply intertwined with Bhutan’s rich history and heritage.
As the Chief Pilot of Drukair, Yab Dasho Dhondup Gyaltshen has dedicated over 35 years to Bhutan’s national airline. During his illustrious career, he played a pivotal role in advancing Bhutan’s aviation sector, leading numerous innovative initiatives that strengthened the industry.
His leadership was instrumental in the transformation of Paro International Airport, which has garnered widespread recognition and accolades from the global travel community for its unique and challenging operational environment.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions, His Majesty The King conferred the prestigious Red Scarf (Bura Marp) upon Yab Dasho Dhondup Gyaltshen on 5th March 2024.
Yab Dasho Dhondup Gyaltshen is married to Yum Sonam Chuki, and together they are proud parents of five children.

Yum Sonam Choki, the mother of Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen (Queen of Bhutan), hails from one of Bhutan’s most distinguished noble lineages, the Bumthang Pangtey family. Her maternal grandfather was the half-brother of Mayum Phuntsho Choden and Mayum Pema Dechan, the revered sisters who served as queen consorts to His Majesty King Jigme Wangchuck, Bhutan’s second King.
Yum Sonam Choki and her family nurtured Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen and her siblings in an environment steeped in values of humility, compassion, and service. These principles have profoundly shaped Her Majesty’s exemplary role as the beloved Queen of Bhutan.
